Conservation of the environment and maintaining a sustainable society
At MGL Group, we are dedicated to preserving our planet for future generations through innovative and sustainable practices. Our commitment to environmental sustainability is at the core of our operations, and we continuously strive to reduce our environmental impact.
Our environmental initiatives include developing and using innovative surfacing materials that reduce environmental impact, implementing effective waste management practices, and promoting recycling to minimise waste. We embrace circular economy principles, focusing on resource efficiency and reducing waste. Additionally, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and have mapped out our pathway to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
Continuously exploring new ways to minimise our environmental impact ensures that sustainability remains at the heart of our operations. Our dedication to environmental stewardship is reflected in our ongoing efforts to innovate and collaborate with partners to create a more sustainable future.
One of our significant achievements in sustainability is pioneering the first net zero asphalt scheme in County Durham. This innovative project used advanced materials and processes to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions during production and incorporate recycled materials. The net zero asphalt project at Elvet Hill Road, undertaken in partnership with Durham County Council and Low Carbon Materials (LCM), is a testament to our commitment to sustainable construction. Since then, we have undertaken several other schemes in the area. Prince William visited the North East, where he discussed decarbonising the built environment with MGL Group's CEO, Dave Elliott.
In 2024, we won the first-ever Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Award at the Constructing Excellence in the North East (CENE) Awards. This recognition highlights our commitment to sustainable business practices and positive social impact.
Dave Whitehouse was also honoured with an Outstanding Achievement Award at the CENE Awards, recognising his work in the industry and asphalt innovation. This includes our Plastipave material, which has previously won CENE awards for sustainability and innovation.
