The Woodsmith Project, a cutting-edge mine located two miles south of Whitby in the North York Moors National Park, is making history with a remarkable achievement, setting a new world record for the longest single Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) drive, reaching an impressive 25.8 kilometres.
The 1,775-tonne machine, Stella-Rose, has been drilling through the ground for four and a half years. Our work on the TBM Launch Ramp has previously been recognised at industry awards, winning ‘Subcontractor of the Year’ and ‘Project of the Year (£1m to £5m)’ Awards at the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) North East Awards 2021.
MGL Group has played a vital role in this achievement, delivering significant work packages. We are proud to support Strabag on this innovative project.
