Teesside International Airport Railway Station
Project Overview
MGL Demolition demolished the footbridge and an unused platform at Teesside Airport Railway Station. These improvements were crucial to maintaining the station’s functionality and safety. The project required meticulous planning and execution to ensure minimal disruption and maximum efficiency.
Challenges
The complex nature of the work presented several challenges. The project involved three non-returnable lifts requiring careful planning and precise execution. Regular design coordination meetings with Network Rail and Teesside International Airport were essential to ensure effective communication with the client and stakeholders while efficiently coordinating the demolition. Additionally, the team had to meet strict deadlines while working with a two-lane road closure that needed to be open to vehicles during the day. The work was safely completed over eight night shifts.
Safety and Sustainability
Given the project’s complexity, robust safety measures were implemented. The demolition was completed during rail possessions in collaboration with Network Rail, ensuring the protection of all their assets, including the track.
By adopting a proactive approach to waste management, 100% of demolition waste was diverted from landfill, actively reducing environmental impact and promoting a sustainable future.
Summary
We are proud to have contributed to the goal of rebuilding the station on its current site. The project provided access to each platform, the airport terminal, and important nearby job sites. This improved the station’s functionality and supported the local community by enhancing connectivity and accessibility.
