Project Overview

Rainton Construction collaborated with Willmott Dixon to support the extensive regeneration of the Baltic Quarter of Gateshead. MGL Earthworks supported by removing spoil from the site and installing a piling mat. Tynedale Roadstone provided the surfacing materials, and this was laid by our in-house team.

This project is a fantastic example of how value is created through collaborative partnerships while working on a crucial piece of the Newcastle Gateshead Quays infrastructure.

Scope of Works

The scope of works was as follows:

  • Reinforced concrete foundations and walls
  • Ground floor slab
  • Waterproofing/Gas proofing
  • External works
  • Drainage including bypass separator tank, attenuation tank and flow control manholes

Sustainability & Social Value

We supported the client’s ‘Now or Never Sustainability Strategy’ by investing in environmental projects to balance our carbon footprint. For a planned period within the programme, we offset 27 tCO2e through verified carbon reduction projects and planting trees in the North East.

Our approach has been underpinned by sustainable practices and driving social value to enhance opportunities for local people. To align with National Apprenticeships, we welcomed students and teachers from Derwentside College to the site to learn more about the project and promote careers in the construction industry.

Summary

This project was completed on time and within budget, to the satisfaction of the client.

Our team has received recognition for exceeding expectations, demonstrating pride in their work, and maintaining a strong commitment to health, safety, and quality. We were honoured with the title of North East Works Partner of the Year and received a Highly Commended award for Sustainability at the Supply Chain Awards 2023.
