MGL Group recently achieved a significant milestone by delivering the first net zero asphalt scheme in County Durham. Partnering with Durham County Council and Low Carbon Materials (LCM), our pioneering work is decarbonising the built environment and paving the way to net zero.
The innovative asphalt, produced by Tynedale Roadstone at our Barton facility, incorporates a carbon-negative aggregate product designed to lower the carbon footprint. Rainton Construction’s surfacing division laid the material at Elvet Hill Road in Durham, demonstrating the collaborative effort behind this project.
Dave Whitehouse, MGL Group’s Head of Research and Product Development, played a key role in bringing the project to life. Recently, he received the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Constructing Excellence in the North East Awards in recognition of his 57-year career and industry impact.
Our commitment to innovation and sustainable solutions extend beyond this milestone project; MGL Group also won the Environment, Social & Governance and People & Culture categories at the awards, solidifying our dedication to environmental responsibility and employee wellbeing.
