MGL Demolition has demolished the former Lovaine Hall and Flats student accommodation at Northumbria University. This significant project paves the way for the Centre for Health and Social Equity (CHASE), one of the largest transformational projects in the university’s current strategy.
The project’s timelapse footage offers a fascinating perspective on the demolition process. Effective collaboration was crucial to successfully demolish a site next to the busy Newcastle Central Motorway. MGL Demolition worked closely with Highways England to ensure safety and environmental regulations were followed while minimising traffic disruptions.
Student and staff safety on the live university campus was also a top priority, with the nearby Cassie Building remaining fully operational throughout the demolition process. Open communication and collaboration were key factors in ensuring a smooth project.
The university has praised the successful completion of the demolition project. The campus director commended MGL Demolition’s commitment to prioritising safety, sustainability, and stakeholder engagement. We are proud to have enabled the project, CHASE will bring together academics from various fields at Newcastle University’s campuses to create a central hub for research and education on health, social care, education, wellbeing, and equity, as well as allow the university to continue to support the development of the healthcare workforce of the future.
