Dalton Park
Project Overview
Rainton Construction was a proud subcontractor for works in the second development phase of Dalton Park, a major retail centre near Murton in Durham.
We provided civil engineering services to improve the highway infrastructure and support expansion, including the construction of a new junction off the A19 and a car park with space for 1,500 vehicles. Our in-house team carried out road planing and surfacing using materials supplied by Tynedale Roadstone.
Challenges
To minimise disruptions to traffic and utilities, the project team successfully obtained Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders (TTRO) and coordinated diversion routes with Highways England and Durham County Council. Collaborative efforts with utility providers, including British Telecom, Virgin Media, and high- and low-voltage cable operators, ensured efficient management of service diversions. Ground scanning, trial holes, and hand excavation techniques were employed to prevent service strikes and maintain regulatory compliance.
Summary
We are proud to have helped create a thriving destination for shoppers, offering a wider variety of retail and leisure options, improved accessibility, and a more efficient road network.
