Explosive demolition at Teesworks

In November 2021, MGL Demolition safely demolished a 20-metre section of a high-level conveyor and a Junction House on the former Raw Materials Area at Teesworks. This explosive demolition formed part of a larger blowdown that took place a month later.

MGL Demolition also demolished the former Ore Bunker. The 2000-tonne bunker stored iron ore, which fed the blast furnace and Junction House 43. This was the first blowdown carried out at night. The bunker and associated structures formed part of the Raw Materials Handling area on the former Redcar Steelworks.

Our works are helping to clear the land as part of Teesside Freeport, the UK’s largest, securing more businesses and bringing good-quality, well-paid jobs for local people.
