SHEQ Advisor - Demolition

About the role

We have a new and exciting opportunity for an experienced SHEQ Advisor to join our Team.

Your role within the SHEQ team will be to support our Demolition Site Teams, providing advice and guidance in compliance with all applicable legislation and industry best practices and supporting the Group’s overall SHEQ strategies.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in demolition safety, with specific expertise in residential, commercial, leisure, and industrial demolition and asbestos removal works.

Key responsibilities

  • Undertake regular site inspections and engagement visits to evaluate the effectiveness of the SHEQ Management Systems and ensure reports are adequately closed out with corrective actions completed within agreed timescales.
  • Advise on producing essential documentation and support operational teams in interpreting and applying the SHEQ Management Systems and any supporting policies, procedures, and processes to enhance awareness, engagement, and capability.
  • Assist with producing Asbestos Plans of Work (PoW) and managing asbestos notifications to the HSE.
  • Ensure that incidents and near misses are effectively managed, reported, investigated, and made subject to root cause analysis following MGL procedures. Support the operational teams in embedding lessons learned.
  • Provide comprehensive support to operational teams to ensure the identification and management of SHEQ risks and opportunities are considered at the work planning stage.
  • Support and facilitate liaison with Clients and enforcing authorities to maintain their confidence & respect.
  • Support the preparation and cascade of SHEQ Alerts / Bulletins and other communication campaigns.
  • Ensure all work follows relevant compliance obligations, best practices, company standard working procedures, and NFDC Demolition Guidance Notes and Procedures.

What we are looking for

• NEBOSH General and/or NEBOSH Construction or equivalent Health and Safety Qualification with a minimum of Tech IOSH membership.
• UKATA Asbestos Project Manager (or equivalent).
• Proven experience as a Health & Safety Advisor in the demolition industry, with experience in construction and demolition activities.
• In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in demolition, with detailed knowledge and experience of CDM.
• The ability to conduct Accident / Incident reports following the Human Factors model.
• Comfortable liaising with HSE and other relevant regulatory authorities.
• Demonstrable experience maintaining management systems to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.
• Experience in reviewing and assisting in developing Construction Phase H&S Plans (including associated documentation relating to fire, logistics, etc.), Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), Lifting Plans, and Temporary Works.
• Self-motivated – improvement-orientated with a desire to undertake any other relevant Learning and Development deemed necessary to enhance performance and maintain their competencies through CPD processes.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Excellent communication skills – both written and oral, and the ability to deal with the business hierarchy.
• The ability to thrive in pressure situations and work independently and as part of a team.
• The ability to empathise and communicate with people.
• Excellent organisation, communication, IT, and time management skills.
