MGL Group is thrilled to announce our support for the County Durham Pound. The project was born out of Durham County Council’s desire to maximise the value of every pound spent in the area by leveraging procurement and supply chain opportunities to achieve equality and sustainability for the collective wellbeing of its people.
It’s a collaborative effort among various organisations to drive long-term social, economic, and environmental benefits for the county. The initiative focuses on key objectives:
- Generating local job opportunities
- Decreasing environmental impact
- Offering meaningful training and upskilling
- Assisting community groups and charities
- Prioritising better health and wellbeing
County Durham and Darlington Police and Crime Commissioner Joy Allen set an ambitious target of generating £6 million in social value through the new Durham Investigative Hub. The Durham Gate development, offering modern accommodation including 48 contemporary cells over 6,600m2, is strategically designed to improve local opportunities and wellbeing.
MGL Group has significantly contributed to the project’s impact through new employment, work experience placements, and more than 150 volunteering hours with local charities, including housing charity DASH and St Cuthbert’s Hospice. A social and economic value of over £10 million has been generated, and more than £18 million of the overall contract was spent in the North East region.
As a proud family business, we actively engage with local communities and are committed to making a positive impact. Supporting initiatives like the County Durham Pound helps to create a brighter and more prosperous future for the entire community.
