The MGL Group is once again delighted to be supporting a grass roots sporting event that is increasing in populartity.
The DurhamDASH! and SedgefieldDASH! will be bigger and better than ever this year, with a little help from local businesses including The MGL Group
The County Durham initiative designed to encourage primary school children to participate in sport has been extended this year to include a series of taster events delivered by a former PE apprentice. Part of the Dash! initiative, a series of Mini-Dash! events have started thanks to investment from County Durham Community Foundation (CDCF) and East Durham Rural Corridor Area Action Partnership (EDRCAAP), which has helped to create a full-time employment opportunity for 18-year-old Michael Jacques from Spennymoor. Michael is now leading the delivery of the taster events after excelling as an apprentice with the Sedgefield School Sports Partnership (SSSP) and recently put pupils at Chilton Primary School through their paces.
During his two-year apprenticeship programme, Michael Jacques was recognised for his ability to inspire and motivate school children to engage in sport.
The Dash! initiative launched in 2012, inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, with the aim of engaging thousands of children aged 7-11 in a series of athletics events in the region. By 2015, the event had over 2,000 participants and in 2016 almost doubled in size when Sedgefield Dash! was launched. 3,750 children from 43 schools ran, jumped and threw in 48 heats and eight finals in Durham and Sedgefield. Organisers are aiming to further build on this success in 2017. The 2017 Sedgefield Dash! final will be held on Tuesday 13 June, hosted by Hardwick Hall Hotel and Hardwick Park, with the Durham Dash! final on the following day on Palace Green in Durham.
The Dash! events are delivered by Durham & Chester-le-Street School Sport Partnership (DCSSP) and Sedgefield School Sports Partnership (SSSP), with a range of key supporters, including The MGL Group, Ramside Estates, Taylor Shaw, East Durham Area Action Partnership, Durham Area Action Partnership, Chester-le-Street Area Action Partnership, Smooth Radio, Curious 12, Swinburne Maddison, Bradley Hall, Durham Sixth Form Centre, MKM Building Supplies, Steven Scarr Hairdressing and Northumbrian Water.
