The introduction of the Gatsby Benchmark Careers Guidance in schools throughout the country has seen the MGL Group of Companies continue their partnership with Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy, providing meaningful engagement with industry and assistance with their careers programme for students in years 7 to 11.
April 4th was Year 9 'Well Being Day' and after the success of the GoConstruct Bridge Building project in 2018, the team at Lord Lawson decided that this year the students would tackle the GoConstruct ‘Green Living Project'.
The day started with a 45 minute presentation around career options in the construction and demolition industry, and an overview of the type of work carried out by the MGL Group of Companies.
In groups of 5 or 6, the students set about designing, costing and planning a sustainable housing development. .
The exercise was greeted with enthusiasm by everyone and the students engaged well with excellent examples of teamwork, design, planning and collaboration.
5 of the team from Rainton Construction and MGL Demolition, met each team as they worked on their project, considered whether they had met the required criteria and discussed career options and pathways into the construction and demolition industry.
The winning team with their ‘Springfields’ development plan are pictured here receiving their winners prizes from MGL Group’s Adam Redshaw, Gary Jameson, Peter Blacklock and Rudi Wild.
