Adam Redshaw, Managing Engineer at Rainton Construction, took Trainee Engineers Tom and Chris to Dame Allans School in Newcastle today to give year 9 pupils an insight into the world of Civil Engineering, its uses and applications in the built environment, and how varied career options are in the construction industry.
After demonstrating the use of Total Station and Cat & Genny surveying equipment, the students set out a small garage, surveyed the school building, plotted utility cables and surveyed the athletics arenas. Adam printed their drawings and sent them back into school so that the students could see exactly what they had acheived.
The glorious May sunshine allowed a whole day of surveying, and both pupils and civil engineers had a thoroughly enjoyable day.
Thank you to Mrs Lines and the Dame Allans Year 9 pupils for their hospitality.
