Newbiggin Library - The Oriel window is saved for future use

Friday, December 15 2017

MGL Demolition have today facilitated the careful removal and storage of an Oriel window from the former Newbiggin Library.

The Oriel window, which is of significant historic interest to the people of Newbiggin by the Sea, was carefully removed in tact, during the demolition of the Library, and has been transported to the Newbiggin by the Sea Genealogy Project for storage, until it is re sited in a future development in Newbiggin.

MGL Demolition successfully carried out the 6 week asbestos removal and demolition project at Newbiggin Library, which was origionally built in 1907 as a school on Gibson Street and designed by local architect T Forest.

The Oriel window was in the Headmasters office when the Library was a school, and was positioned centrally above the origional entrance.
